Here’s why proper wheel alignment matters and how it benefits your vehicle.

1. Improves Handling and Driving Comfort

If your car pulls to one side or your steering feels off, it could be due to poor wheel alignment. Properly aligned wheels ensure your car drives straight and responds correctly to steering inputs, making every drive smoother and more controlled.

2. Extends the Life of Your Tires

Uneven tire wear is one of the biggest consequences of misalignment. When your wheels aren’t properly aligned, certain areas of your tires wear out faster, leading to premature replacements. A quick alignment check can help you avoid unnecessary tire costs.

3. Boosts Fuel Efficiency

Did you know poor wheel alignment can reduce your fuel economy? When wheels are misaligned, your car has to work harder to move forward, using more fuel in the process. Keeping your wheels aligned helps improve gas mileage and saves you money at the pump.

4. Reduces Wear and Tear on Suspension and Steering

A misaligned vehicle doesn’t just wear out tires—it also puts extra stress on your suspension and steering system. Over time, this can lead to costly repairs. Regular wheel alignments help protect these vital components and keep your vehicle running smoothly.

5. Enhances Safety on the Road

Safety should always be a top priority. Misaligned wheels can affect braking, steering, and overall stability, increasing the risk of accidents. A properly aligned car is easier to control, especially during sudden maneuvers or bad weather conditions.

When Should You Get a Wheel Alignment?

It’s a good idea to check your alignment if you notice:

Your car pulls to one side

Uneven or rapid tire wear

A shaky or off-center steering wheel

You recently hit a pothole or curb

Everything you need to know about proper wheel alignment

Why is a proper wheel alignment so important?
Picture yourself cruising down the most beautiful road in the world. Now imagine driving down that same road and your car veering off to the left or right because your wheels were pointed the wrong way. Not the most beautiful road in the world anymore.

Proper wheel alignment is a complex topic covering a variety of terms and a smorgasbord of parts. When your wheels are out of alignment, your tires aren’t pointing in the right direction. This will affect your steering and suspension. More importantly, it could affect your safety and the durability of our tires and all of the parts controlling them.

How do vehicles lose their wheel alignment?
It doesn’t take much. There are many ways for your car to lose its alignment. Wheel alignment can be thrown off by:

*Pot holes
*Hitting the curb
*Bumping into a concrete parking stall
*Fair wear and tear

Without a proper wheel alignment, you will end up wasting a lot of money on tires because they will wear down much faster. Your vehicle may not handle as well, or you could have difficulty maintaining control of your vehicle altogether.

Did you know?
The best move you can make is to have it checked with every other oil change. This will extend the life of your tires.

A lot will happen over the course of 6,000 miles. You will inevitably drive through pot holes, travel down gravely stretches of road, and you may occasionally knock your wheels on a curb mid-turn. All of these things combined can greatly impact the way your tires sit, throwing off your wheel alignment in an instant.

It can be difficult to determine with the naked eye when your wheel alignment is off. We cannot see in fractions of degrees without the proper technology. It only takes a minuscule amount of misalignment to have a huge impact on tire life. Our certified technicians here at CarStruction are available to answer any questions or concerns you may have. Come by and see us today!

Properly adjusting your side view mirrors can significantly enhance your driving safety. When you need to change lanes or merge into traffic, you rely heavily on your mirrors. If you have blind spots, these routine maneuvers can become extremely dangerous. Here’s how to adjust your mirrors to eliminate blind spots, so you won’t have to turn your head to see if you’re safe to merge.

Understanding Them

A blind spot is an area where a vehicle cannot be seen from your rear view or side view mirrors, or even in your peripheral vision. The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) developed a system for setting your mirrors to eliminate blind spots completely. Many drivers swear by this method. By using this setting, you will no longer have to turn your head to check traffic, allowing you to keep the traffic in front of your vehicle in your peripheral vision. Additionally, headlight glare from trailing cars in your side mirrors is almost completely eliminated. This method requires only a quick glance at your rear view and side view mirrors to check the traffic around you.

Adjusting Your Side Mirrors

Driver’s Side Mirror:

Lean to the left and place your head against the window.

Adjust the mirror until you can barely see the side of your vehicle.

Passenger’s Side Mirror:

Move your head as close to the center of the vehicle as possible.

Adjust the mirror until you can barely see the passenger side of your vehicle.

Rear View Mirror:

Adjust to see as much of the rear window as possible.

Checking for Blind Spots

To check if you’ve eliminated your blind spots, observe as a car passes you in traffic. You should be able to see the car in your side view mirror before it leaves your rear view mirror. If this works, congratulations—you have eliminated your blind spots!

Important Reminders

Remember, other drivers may not be aware of this method. Try to stay out of their blind spots as much as possible. By adjusting your mirrors correctly, you can enhance your safety and make driving a more secure experience for everyone on the road.

Preparing for and What to Do in an Accident

Road conditions this time of year can be extremely hazardous. The rainy season has begun, and with rain obstructing your visibility, it can make driving increasingly dangerous. It is also conducive weather for hydroplaning. Auto accidents happen frequently during this season, and it’s important to be prepared. We’ve compiled a list of what you can do to prepare yourself for an accident, as well as what to do if you do find yourself in this unfortunate situation.

Before an Accident

Keep certain items on you when you go out on the road in your vehicle. You’ll of course want to have your driver’s license and proof of insurance on hand. This is a no brainer. But, it would also be helpful to keep a pen and paper and a mobile phone with you. This way, you can take down pertinent information if need be, take photos of the accident and of course call for help. This will make the process much easier on you. Also, we recommend keeping a set of cones, emergency flares or warning triangles in the trunk to alert traffic. Any one of these items will do. However, a combination of flares and cones/triangles is even better.

After an Accident

In the event of an accident, it’s important to stay as calm as possible. The adrenaline from the crash can prevent you from thinking clearly. Take a deep breath and look at your surroundings. Assess all potential dangers and make sure that you and others around you are safe from further harm.

Call 911 immediately if someone is injured. You may also need to call the police if extensive damage has been done to your vehicles. You will want to get out of the road as soon as possible. If you were in a minor accident and can move your vehicles, absolutely do so. If you cannot move your vehicles, put on your hazards and set up your system of cones, warning triangles or flares to alert traffic. You want to do anything you can to prevent further pileups. If the accident occurs at nightfall, be especially aware that other drivers may not see you—in or out of your car. Sometimes, staying in your car can be more dangerous than not. Again, try to assess your environment and potential dangers as best you can given the circumstances.

When approaching the other party/parties involved

Be sure to watch what you say. Avoid phrases like “it was my fault.” Again, with adrenaline pumping, there’s no way you can take full stock of the situation. It’s best to just exchange information at this time. You’ll want to get the following insurance information from the other parties involved:

Name

Address

Phone Number

Email Address

Make, model and year of the vehicle

Insurance Carrier

Insurance Policy Number

If possible, getting a few photos of the damage would be helpful. Make sure also to get the location of the accident and photos of people involved with their permission. If you needed to call the police, also get the name, badge number, phone number and police report number from the officer. You can also ask for a copy of the police report for your records.

As soon as the dust has settled, call your insurance provider. Remember, you have the choice of who works on your vehicle. Car Struction will be happy to give you a free repair estimate and work with your insurance company to get you back on the road. You can even email any one of our estimators:

Proper Wheel Alignment is More Important Than You Think

Machinery is finicky. Every mechanical thing that you own needs proper maintenance. You need to replace the air filters in your house for your HVAC system to work properly. You have to always remember to clean your dryer’s lint trap to reduce fire hazards. Your computer even needs to be updated frequently in order to maintain usability. Ever heard of the phrase, “a well-oiled machine?” Well, that’s because machines don’t work properly when not well maintained. Your wheel alignment is no different. It plays an important role in the performance of your car.

Think about your Safety

Just like all machinery, your car relies on precision to function safely and efficiently. Your tires can easily be misaligned. Usually, just from road conditions but maybe you also pulled through that parking spot, not realizing that there was a parking stop in front of you. Whatever the case, your alignment needs to be checked fairly regularly. Misaligned wheels can obviously lead to uneven wear on your tires. And you think, “So, what? That’s only costing me more money on tires!” True. But, think for a second how difficult it is to drive on a slick or icy road with new tires. When the tread is worn unevenly, it becomes increasingly more difficult. Not only that, but when your alignment is off, your vehicle will pull to the right or left. Imagine fighting that with uneven tread!

Think about your Car

Besides the important safety factor, improper alignment also puts unnecessary strain on your car and lead to other connected problems. For example, it can also affect your brake shaft performance. When your car pulls to one side, it can lead to problems in the steering system and cause uneven braking. And most expensively, misaligned tires can cause problems with your suspension. Your suspension is made up of delicately balanced parts. When your alignment is off, your suspension is soon behind it. This can cost a ton of money to replace.

Think about your Budget

By now, you get the picture. Getting your wheels aligned properly and regularly is important for your safety and your vehicle’s performance. However, it also saves you on gas! It may feel like an extra cost now, but in the long run it’ll pay for itself. Misaligned wheels and uneven tread lower your gas mileage. When your tread is off, your tires are under uneven pressure. This causes your vehicle to work much harder to get down the road and burns more gas as a result. With how many times you have to fill up at the pump, wheel alignment is a proper investment in your yearly budget.

Car Struction can service your vehicle, and get those wheels aligned fast. We implement the Hawkeye Alignment system to provide you with the most accurate alignment possible. It uses four digital cameras to measure the position of the wheels and orientation. Imaging sensors provide our technicians with the exact measurements and direction of the necessary adjustments for front and rear toe and camber adjustments. These measurements are made continuously as our technicians balance your wheels. This provides the highest level of accuracy achievable in wheel alignment today.

If you find that your car is pulling to one side, or that your tires are wearing unevenly, it’s time for a check up. Call our professionals at Car Struction to make an appointment today. It may save you money in the long run!
